Dominick Armato is the Co-Founder and President of MySmartPlans. He founded the company with Shelley Armato, Co-Founder and CEO, after firsthand construction experience revealed how much is at risk when the complete project record is out of reach.
Construction Experience Behind the Mission
Dominick brings 45 years of experience running a union painting business. He understands what it takes to perform the work, coordinate with project teams, honor commitments, and protect the people whose livelihoods depend on a successful project.
In Kansas City, his story is also one of relationships. Clients, tradespeople, and families know him through decades of work and personal connections. That practical knowledge of construction and its people helped shape the purpose of MySmartPlans.
The Experience That Sparked MySmartPlans
A difficult housing project at Whiteman Air Force Base changed the course of the Armato family’s business. Scattered emails, mounting PDFs, and unresolved commitments made the project record difficult to follow. After the project, the family closed a subcontracting business built over 45 years.
Dominick and Shelley turned that experience into a question: how can owners and project participants make sound decisions when the information they need is missing, fragmented, or controlled elsewhere?
With $15,000 and a 700-square-foot garage, they launched MySmartPlans to build a better way to organize, preserve, and use project knowledge.

Dominick’s construction experience and Shelley’s entrepreneurial leadership came together around a shared purpose: put an independent, organized, verifiable project record in the owner’s hands.
That purpose guides MySmartPlans from planning and design through construction, commissioning, turnover, and lifecycle operations.
