A Smart Plan: Marathon Digital Services
Shelley Armato identified a problem and solved it through innovation and technology.

Through her husband Dominick’s 38 years’ experience as a commercial paint contractor, she knew that getting the right information at the right time is an issue that subcontractors routinely face. The problem is with the inefficiencies of common electronic methods of information-sharing. Lack of organization, incorrect and incomplete information, and the constantly-changing nature of design and construction documents present time and monetary challenges. “You don’t have to sleep with that every night,” Armato said. “It shouldn’t have to be a constant worry.”

KANSAS CITY, MO - Purdue University, in association with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), is conducting a case study on the 2E Surgical Services renovation for the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. ASHE chose Gregory Lasker, Assistant Professor of Healthcare Construction Management at Purdue University, and his ASHE student chapter to conduct the case study in examination of the implementation of ASHE’s “Health Facility Commissioning Guidelines” (HFCG), published in 2010. Lasker chose to utilize the services of MySmartPlans to enable this ongoing evaluation.

The MySmartPlans dashboard creates a bridge between all of the different programs and applications that individual contractors use throughout the construction process, giving Lasker and his student assistants a single destination from which they can view the project’s current documents, communications, reviews, and schedule to ensure the process adheres to ASHE’s Commissioning Guidelines. Lasker said, “Since I can’t be there [in Arkansas] as everything is happening, MySmartPlans gives me eyes to track and document the process so I don’t miss any of the details.”

In addition to study involvement, MySmartPlans is providing Project Information Management services for all project stakeholders, including the general contractor and architect, Nabholz Construction and Polk Stanley Wilcox, respectively. The entire construction team, including owners, consultants, and subcontractors, utilize MySmartPlans for photo documentation and storage, redline review, and tracking & review of submittal documents, in addition to keeping project participants current with updated plans, specs, addenda, RFI’s, and other construction information.

MySmartPlans Helps Joplin School District Meet Tight Building Deadline

KANSAS CITY, MO - MySmartPlans will be assisting in the build-out of Joplin East Middle School's temporary facility after a tornado significantly damaged the original school building, causing over $150 million in damages throughout the district. The district's leadership is dedicated to having the temporary facilities ready for the first day of school on August 17, 2011. To accomplish this goal, they have partnered with Crossland Construction, who chose to utilize the MySmartPlans software to expedite the document management process.

The temporary facility will be in the Crossroads Industrial Park until the re-construction of the school building is complete. The building must be fitted to accommodate the needs of the hundreds of students that are enrolled, and MySmartPlans will enable the contractors to perform at their maximum efficiency as they retrofit this space.

MySmartPlans' Chief Operating Officer Tim Harrison stated, "I am glad that we are able to help the community of Joplin rebuild through this difficult time. Because the school district is on such a restricted time frame and there are so many variables within the current infrastructure, the reconstruction process is incredibly complex and time sensitive. MySmartPlans will be a critical part of the process to ensure milestones are being met and the entire project team is on the same page."
